The Aswang ranks as the most feared creature in Filipino folklore – a shapeshifting monster that preys on pregnant women and children. Unlike many mythological beings confined to remote wilderness, the Aswang lives among humans, appearing as a normal person by day while hunting by night.
Daytime Disguise

Filipino tradition offers many defenses. Salt, garlic, and religious objects repel them. A special oil made from coconut and herbs will boil in an Aswangs presence. The tail of a stingray can wound them. Finding and destroying the hidden lower body of a Manananggal before dawn kills the creature.
